What Chart is for

Chart shows the retained market path for the selected Run Output. Use it to examine where orders and trades occurred, how price moved around them, and whether the visual sequence agrees with the exact tables.

Charts communicate shape. Tables and retained events hold the exact values.

When Chart appears

Chart retention is selected separately from analysis depth:

  • Compact retains the summary material needed for ordinary result review.
  • Interactive Chart also retains the bounded market and execution detail required by the Chart tab.

Summary versus Robust does not control Chart availability. A Robust result can use Compact retention, and a Summary result can retain an Interactive Chart.

Use the chart controls

The interactive view supports the retained display modes and context needed to inspect the run:

  • Candles for open, high, low, and close;
  • a close line for a simpler price path;
  • order, entry, exit, and trade markers when those records are available;
  • pan and zoom over bounded windows; and
  • a full-run overview for returning from a focused region.

Select a row in Positions & Trades and use its chart action to focus the relevant interval. Verify that the visible window covers the complete order or holding period before interpreting it.

Reconcile the visual with exact records

  1. Confirm instrument, market, and time-zone context.
  2. Compare marker timestamps and prices with Positions & Trades.
  3. Compare order and fill sequence with retained execution events when necessary.
  4. Check whether the displayed series is candle, close-only, or a downsampled overview.
  5. Return to Performance for fees, slippage, excursions, and aggregate contribution.

The chart is not a separate calculation. It visualizes the selected Run Output and must never silently combine data from a different run, Strategy version, Portfolio candidate, or execution model.

Read higher-fidelity charts carefully

Tick, quote, L2, and L3 execution can retain more detailed event evidence than a candle chart can display. The price chart remains an orientation surface; queue movement, partial fills, resets, gaps, and order lifecycle belong in the structured execution readers.

For intended L3 order-level replay, Chart can show where hypothetical orders and fills occurred, but it must not imply:

  • exact exchange fills;
  • a complete exchange matching engine;
  • hidden or implied liquidity;
  • calibrated network or gateway latency; or
  • a historical market response to the Strategy's hypothetical orders.

Use Validation and Outputs for reconstruction, queue eligibility, temporal integrity, and execution-event evidence.

When chart data is unavailable

Results reports whether Interactive Chart was not requested, the selected instrument has no retained chart series, or a required artifact is missing, stale, malformed, or blocked. The remaining tabs stay usable.

Run again with Interactive Chart only when the visual path is needed. Chart retention increases stored detail; it does not improve the Strategy or make the result more reliable by itself.
